From a young age Murray’s affinity for working dogs and livestock was evident. It was a natural progression for him to become a stockman and work on the land, alongside his team of dogs and horses.

On a daily basis Murray’s team of horses and dogs work on Ellerston Station, NSW. In addition to this they can also be found at working dog trials on weekends and their annual trip to the Sydney Royal Easter Show performing working dog demonstrations to the city folk. Over the years Murray’s home bred and trained dogs have represented NSW in the trial ring, won numerous Open, Maiden and Novice events whilst also being sought after at the increasingly popular working dog sales. The value of a good working dog is now being realized. In 2016 home grown and trained “Yarram Bear” sold for $8750, and pup “Yarrum Stella” sold for $2900 to very happy buyers. This is a representation of the quality that Murray and Jacqui aim to breed, train and present.

In addition to the work dogs, cow horse events occupy any other ‘spare’ time for Murray. He caught the ‘Cutting’ bug after setting himself the goal of breaking in, training and successfully competing on his first ‘snaffle bit’ horse ‘A Mega Cat’ pictured. From here, he and the horse progressed to Rookie events. Since then Murray has trained his own non-pro Futurity horse, reaching the finals, with a team of youngsters now in the same program. Murray breaks in all of his own horses, they are taken to work and given plenty of mustering and vital outside riding before, during and after their training. These are experiences that make them more worldly an exposed as a horse. It is also the aim to present 1-2 horses each year at major performance horse sales such as the prestigious Landmark Classic.

Murray is one busy man, supported by his wife Jacqui and their newborn son Jordan.
