Yes, 4CYTE is safe for dogs with kidney or liver issues. We know of many dogs with liver conditions that are successfully taking 4CYTE. We also know in our safety studies in healthy dogs, that liver enzymes were not elevated – dogs were fed five times the daily dose of 4CYTE daily three 3 months.
In regards to renal impact, the mechanisms by which 4CYTE delivers its anti-inflammatory, analgesic and chondro-protecive effects have been very well elucidated by Wendy Pearson’s in-vitro and in-vivo studies carried out at the University of Guelph.
While there have been no specific studies carried out with 4CYTE in animals with renal problems, there have been no indications of potential problems with the safety testing that has been carried out. There were no elevations of renal enzymes even at the highest doses used in these studies.
We have also received questions regarding the potential impact the ingestion of 4CYTE could have on the protein intake of animals on low protein diets for kidney problems.
The assessment was that the impact of the protein ingested in the 4CYTE on total protein intake would be minimal.
All in all, a high level of confidence has been developed in using 4CYTE in animals with impaired renal function.
